BMW: Latest Models - Performance and Price Comparison

BMW is highly proactive in the electric vehicle market, with seven main electric models currently available in Hong Kong. These include four SUV models: iX, iX1, iX2, and iX3. For sedans, there are the i4, i5, and i7, each available in various versions with differing performance and equipment levels.

According to BMW’s naming convention, the model's level is generally indicated by the number following "xDrive" (all-wheel drive) or "eDrive" (two-wheel drive). Higher numbers represent models with more extensive interior and exterior features, performance, and luxury equipment. For instance, the iX comes in several variants, including the high-performance iX M60, iX xDrive40, and iX xDrive50. The iX xDrive50 offers a 34.9 kWh larger battery capacity compared to the iX xDrive40 and has 200 more horsepower.

BMW’s SUV models start with "X" and are categorized from small to large: X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, X6, and X7. However, in Hong Kong, the X1 and X2 have been discontinued, likely due to the company’s focus on developing electric models iX1 and iX2.

The SUVs in the BMW lineup have a similar exterior appearance, with the X3, X5, and X7 featuring a more traditional boxy design. The X4 and X6 use a coupe-style design, which appears sportier but slightly reduces rear passenger headroom and cargo space.

The BMW XM is one of the latest flagship models from BMW. This SUV features a plug-in hybrid engine with an all-electric range of 82 - 88 km, allowing minimal fuel consumption. With 653 ps of power, it is awarded the M badge, offering top-tier performance and fuel efficiency. It is priced accordingly, approaching HK$3 million.

The numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 may seem ordinary, but for BMW, these are significant as they represent their long-standing series of names for gasoline sedans. Previously, the 1 Series and 2 Series were primarily hatchbacks or seven-seaters, but the 2 Series has recently added a coupe model, including the high-performance M2 variant.

The 3 Series, 5 Series, and 7 Series maintain the traditional sedan format, with M versions available for the 3 Series and 5 Series (the 4 Series and 6 Series are coupe/convertible models, though currently discontinued in Hong Kong).

The BMW M Series is a dream car for many aficionados due to its high-performance capabilities. Currently, BMW's M series lineup in Hong Kong, in addition to the mentioned hybrid XM model, includes gasoline-powered M series models such as the M2 Coupé, M3 Sedan, M3 Touring, and M4 Coupé, encompassing two-door coupes, sedans, and touring models.
