Kia PV5

The Kia PV5 with its futuristic appearance is positioned as a Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV). Built on the PBV (Platform Beyond Vehicle) and E-GMP.S (Electric-Global Modular Platform for Service) architectures, its modular design allows it to transform into a van, passenger car, Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV), etc. While this may not be a big factor for end-users, it provides manufacturers with more vehicle types for different uses.

The PV 5 adopts a single-motor front-wheel-drive layout, offering 120 kW of power and 250 Nm of torque. It comes with two battery capacities: 51.5kWh and 71.2kWh, providing a range of about 415 km. It supports 150 kW fast charging, taking about 30 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%. The Hong Kong distributor has revealed that the PV5 will land in the local market, with versions including light goods vehicles (2 and 5 seats) and private cars (5 seats). The ‘One-for-One’ price starts from HK$299,800, with other details pending announcement by the distributor.

Mazda 6e

The Mazda 6e, jointly developed by Mazda and mainland Chinese auto brand Changan Automobile, has gained both sales and reputation since its launch in mainland China last year (the mainland version is EZ-6). The factory quickly unveiled the European version, renamed 6e. The exterior continues the brand's Kodo-Soul design language, with a length, width, and height of 4,921 mm, 1,890 mm, and 1,491 mm, respectively. The fastback design lines are simple and smooth. It features frameless doors, hidden door handles, and an electric rear spoiler.

The Hong Kong distributor has announced that the 6e will be sold in Hong Kong, adopting rear-wheel drive and a 78kWh battery capacity. Charging from 30% to 80% only takes 15 minutes, providing a maximum range of 545 km. The power and torque are 190 kW and 320 Nm, respectively, with 0-100 km/h taking about 7.5 seconds.

smart #2

In the past gasoline era, smart mainly focused on a series of city small cars, but in the electric era, the size of all smart models suddenly expanded. However, coming to 2026, smart is finally returning to its roots, announcing that it will launch a new small car, the #2, within the year. The new car is expected to be a two-seater model, with about 120kW of power, a maximum range of 300 km, and support for fast charging, capable of charging to 80% in 30 minutes. smart stated that the new model is designed by the Mercedes-Benz design team, and adopts new technology, combining with the current #1, #3, and #5, making the smart product line more complete and suitable for users with different needs.

LEXUS ES

LEXUS unveiled the all-new 8th generation ES series in mid-2025. As the brand's best-selling four-door sedan series, the new generation not only retains the gasoline version but also adds a pure electric system. The new car changes from a three-box to a fastback design, and the body length is extended by 165 mm to 5,140 mm. The cabin has also been redesigned, with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch central touchscreen. The center console includes "sensor-activated hidden buttons," where function buttons for air conditioning, volume, and 360-degree view automatically light up when a finger approaches.

The ES series is divided into ES 350e and ES 500e, both with a 74.69 kWh battery. The ES 350e is a single-motor front-wheel-drive layout, outputting 165 kW of power, with 0 - 100 km/h in 8.2 seconds. The ES 500e, equipped with a dual-motor setup, provides 252 kW of power, with 0 - 100 km/h taking 5.7 seconds. The range under the CLTC standard is 685 km and 610 km, respectively. It supports 150 kW DC charging, charging the battery from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes.

Nissan LEAF

The Nissan LEAF, which can be called the ‘Japanese EV Ambassador to Hong Kong’ is certainly no stranger to Hong Kong people. Coming to 2026, it finally undergoes a dramatic change. The all-new generation LEAF switches from a hatchback to a city SUV shape, with a significant increase in size compared to the current generation, bringing a completely new feeling.

The factory has currently announced 4 versions, with batteries ranging from 52 kWh to 75 kWh, power from about 128 kW to 157 kW, and a range from 417 km up to a maximum of 488 km. The battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in 35 minutes. The interior also features a new design, with two long screens serving as the digital instrument cluster and central screen, respectively, with sizes ranging from 12.3 inches to 14.3 inches, depending on the version.

In terms of safety systems, it comes standard with the Nissan ProPilot Assist semi-autonomous driving assistance system, which includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, high beam assist, lane departure warning, and other safety systems.

Zeekr 007 GT

Although the Zeekr 007 GT has a wagon exterior, the factory deliberately used a streamlined fastback design, a low body height of 1,445 mm, and a segmented rear spoiler to create a wagon with a strong high-performance flavor. The performance figures of the 007 GT also absolutely match its appearance. It is available in rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions, with the all-wheel-drive version outputting 475 kW of power and 710 Nm of torque, and 0-100 km/h taking only 3.8 seconds.

In terms of battery, both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions are equipped with a 75 kWh capacity battery, while the long-range rear-wheel-drive version has a 100 kWh battery. The range under the CLTC standard is 650 km (RWD), 825 km (long-range RWD), and 585 km (AWD). All three versions support 800V charging, and can be charged from 10% to 80% in as little as 10.5 minutes.

Mercedes-Benz VLE / VLS

Mercedes-Benz showcased the concept car Vision V at the Shanghai Auto Show in the middle of the year, shaking up the luxury MPV market with a completely new look. Soon after, the factory announced that it would release two models, the VLE and VLS, to replace the current V-Class. The VLE mainly features three rows of seats, accommodating up to 8 passengers. The VLS targets the luxury market, equipped with individual seats, offering an S-Class level of enjoyment, and even providing a 4K rear-seat entertainment screen and ambient lighting.

The two models are expected to be launched in 2026. The factory stated that they adopt the latest VAN.EA (Van Electric Architecture) modular platform, combined with a Battery-First design, which integrates the battery under the car floor, effectively increasing interior space and lowering the center of gravity to enhance handling.

Mercedes-Benz GLB

Following the all-new CLA, Mercedes-Benz no longer has a separate EQ series, but instead integrates gasoline and pure electric models within the same series. For example, the all-new generation GLB series, its pure electric model will only be marked with "with EQ Technology" to indicate its identity. As the brand's best-selling seven-seater SUV, the new GLB has slightly increased in length, width, and height, while overall maintaining the GLB's lines. The rear luggage compartment is 540 liters and can be increased to 1,715 liters by folding down the third-row seats.

The pure electric models are divided into GLB 250+ with EQ Technology and GLB 350 4Matic with EQ Technology, both equipped with an 85 kWh battery. The power and torque are 200 kW / 260 kW and 335 Nm / 516 Nm, respectively. They support 320 kW fast charging, with a maximum range of 631 km. The cabin is equipped with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch central screen, with an optional 14-inch screen for the front passenger.

Mercedes-Benz CLA

The all-new Mercedes-Benz CLA unveiled earlier this year features a brand new exterior design. Its grille is equipped with 142 LED lighting units, complemented by a continuous light strip for the headlights, giving it a strong futuristic feel. The new CLA is the first model by the factory to adopt the Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA platform), which, combined with exclusive battery technology and an 800V electrical system, allows for a maximum range of up to 792 km. Hong Kong currently offers two versions: CLA 250+ and CLA 350 4MATIC. The former is a rear-wheel-drive single-motor configuration, and the latter is a dual-motor all-wheel-drive.

The new car is equipped with the new MBUX Superscreen large integrated screen, which combines the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and the 14-inch central touchscreen into an ultra-wide display interface. The car system is built with the latest MB.OS operating system, providing powerful AI computing capabilities, seamless connection to the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud service, and continuous access to the latest software and feature upgrades via OTA wireless updates.

XPENG P7

The XPENG P7 is the latest model released by the factory. The sports sedan exterior completes the brand's product line. With a length of 5,017 mm and a wheelbase of 3,008 mm, the P7 offers extremely spacious cabin room. The P7 can be called the factory's current high-tech masterpiece, equipped with 3 Turing AI chips with a total computing power of 2,250 TOPS, which directly benefits the XNGP intelligent assisted driving system by providing faster response to various road conditions.

In terms of performance, the P7 is also among the top tier. Not only does it have a 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution, but the all-wheel-drive Ultra version also provides 437 kW of power and 695 Nm of torque, with 0-100 km/h taking only 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 230 km/h. Although the factory has not announced the battery capacity, based on the CLTC range of 750 km and an energy consumption of 13.5 kWh per 100 km, the estimated battery capacity ranges from 97 kWh to 102 kWh.

Notes on Buying an EV in 2026

The current First Registration Tax Concession Scheme for Electric Vehicles (i.e., the One-for-One Replacement Scheme) will end on March 31, 2026. The future tax arrangements for the first registration of electric vehicles after this date are currently unknown and await government announcement. Therefore, a buying spree is expected before March. It is recommended to plan your purchase in advance to avoid long delivery times or missing the deadline for registration and losing the tax concession.

In addition, it is important to note that starting from the end of 2025, the EV license fee will switch from being based on "curb weight" to being based on "rated power" in a graded manner. Electric vehicles with higher power will see a higher increase in license fees over the next three years. Therefore, when purchasing an electric car in 2026, you need to pay attention to the rated power output and should not solely look at the horsepower and performance figures.

Frequently Asked Questions

What to do after the One-for-One scheme ends?

The current First Registration Tax Concession (including One-for-One) only lasts until March 31, 2026. Whether the government will extend or modify the scheme afterwards is yet to be determined. If you plan to use the One-for-One scheme to buy an electric car, it is recommended to place an order before March, otherwise there is a high chance of encountering a delivery rush at the "last call" or even failing to register before the deadline, thus losing the tax concession.

What is the impact of the new EV license fee based on rated power?

Starting from the end of 2025, the EV license fee will change from ‘curb weight’ to ‘rated power’ in a graded manner. Electric vehicles with higher rated power will see a more aggressive increase in fees in the coming years. Taking the BYD Sealion 7 as an example, the rated power of the two-wheel-drive model is 70 kW, and the four-wheel-drive model is 145 kW. Under the new license fee structure, the difference in fees between the two models will be $4,000 by 2030.

Electric Vehicle Fast Charging Guide 2025

Electric vehicle (EV) charging is always a major concern for EV owners. Although Hong Kong already has over 7,400 charging points, as of the end of January 2024, there are 79,580 EVs in the city. This means about ten cars are competing for one charging point, highlighting that the number of charging points still lags far behind the increase in EVs. Besides Tesla’s own supercharger stations, more charging stations are being set up to support various EV brands. This Kwiksure guide presents 13 recommended universal paid charging station locations, a comparison of charging fees, and an explanation of EV charging standards to help EV owners better understand the charging process.
