The new version of the Tesla Model Y for 2025 is definitely a highly anticipated EV among car enthusiasts. Although there isn’t much information available yet, test vehicles have been spotted multiple times, indicating a strong likelihood of a launch next year. According to foreign automotive magazines’ speculation, the 2025 version of the Tesla Model Y will feature design upgrades distinguishing it from the current Model 3, including new elongated headlights and a continuous tail light design.

While there has been a seven-seat version of the Model Y in the past, it was not introduced in Hong Kong. Reports suggest that the new version will include a six-seat option, enhancing the rear seat experience with a screen. In terms of power, it is expected that the long-range version will utilize the latest 95 kWh battery, increasing its range to 800 km, a significant improvement over the current 75 kWh battery's maximum range of 533 km. Reports indicate that the 2025 version of the Tesla Model Y has entered production, with an official announcement expected in the first or second quarter of 2025.

Earlier this year, BMW unveiled the Neue Klasse X concept car, with 'X' referring to its crossover design, closely resembling the current iX3 in size. The Vision Neue Klasse X features sleek and streamlined body lines, exuding a futuristic feel. Notable design elements include laser-etched emblems on both the front and rear, 3D-printed tail lights, and body kits made from recycled plastics. The iconic vertical kidney grille at the front pays homage to the classic BMW 503 from the 1950s.

The new vehicle is built on the Neue Klasse platform, which the manufacturer claims has increased battery density by 20%, resulting in a 30% improvement in both range and charging speed. Based on the current iX3's range of approximately 458 km, the Neue Klasse X is expected to achieve around 563 km. The manufacturer also stated that the Neue Klasse X will be available in both a single-motor rear-wheel drive version and a four-motor all-wheel drive version, with mass production expected to begin in the second quarter of 2025.

The Hyundai Inster EV is based on the company’s compact SUV, the Casper Electric. However, Casper is a model for the South Korean market, while the export version is named Inster EV. The design adopts a youthful style, with dimensions of 3,825 x 1,610 x 1,575 mm and a wheelbase of 2,580 mm, making it quite impressive for a small car, and it offers 280 liters of trunk space.

The Inster EV is powered by two battery options: 42 kWh and 49 kWh, both equipped with a single motor. The power outputs are approximately 71 kW and 84 kW, with torque at 147 Nm. While these figures may seem average, they are sufficient for a compact SUV intended for urban commuting, especially with a range of 355 km. Using a 120 kW DC fast charger, it can charge from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes.

As for the price, Hyundai has indicated that the Inster EV will first launch in South Korea, followed by launches in Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region, with an expected price of around EUR €25,000 (approximately HK$209,000).

Kia's compact electric SUV, the Niro EV, has been on sale in Hong Kong for some time. Recently, the company unveiled the new model EV3, which is seen as a replacement for the Niro EV. The dimensions of the EV3 are 4,300 x 1,850 x 1,560 mm, which are quite close to the Niro's dimensions of 4,420 x 1,825 x 1,570 mm. The new vehicle adopts the brand's recent Opposites United design philosophy, featuring strong lines and dual L-shaped headlights, resembling a smaller version of the EV9.

As a brand-new model, the interior of the EV3 is quite impressive, with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster connected to a central touchscreen that includes both a 5-inch and a 12.3-inch display, providing ample driving information and multimedia features, along with an AI voice assistant. The central storage area also includes a sliding table surface, and the front seats offer a relaxation mode.

The EV3 comes in standard and long-range versions, equipped with 58.3 kWh and 81.4 kWh batteries, respectively, with the long-range version achieving a range of up to 600 km. Both versions have the same power output, delivering 150 kW and 283 Nm of torque. The estimated starting price is around US$35,000 (approximately HK$273,000).

The Kia EV9 has been on the market for some time, and as a sister brand, Hyundai has now officially introduced its equivalent model, the IONIQ 9. As a large SUV, the IONIQ 9 features an Aerosthetic design language inspired by the streamlined shapes of ships, while incorporating many characteristics of the IONIQ series, such as the Parametric Pixels LED headlights and taillights.

One of the selling points of the IONIQ 9 is its spacious interior, benefiting from the E-GMP EV platform, which offers a wheelbase of up to 3.2 meters, providing rear legroom of up to 42 inches. It is reported that the IONIQ 9 will be equipped with SK On's latest fourth-generation high-nickel ternary lithium battery (NCM) to increase its range. Although the manufacturer has not disclosed much information about the IONIQ 9 yet, it is expected that an unveiling event will be held in November.

Since smart fully transformed into an EV manufacturer, its models have not only captured the attention of car enthusiasts but also received widespread acclaim. Following the #1 and #3, the #5, released mid-year, has similarly generated buzz. Positioned as a mid-sized SUV, the #5 combines off-road capabilities with a playful style, and the manufacturer has introduced a variety of body accessories, such as roof racks, side boxes, and footrests, allowing for a more personalized appearance. Additionally, the #5 utilizes the SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) pure EV platform, measuring over 4.7 meters in length and with a wheelbase of 2.9 meters, making it the largest model in smart's history.

According to the manufacturer, the #5 will be available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions, with the all-wheel drive version achieving a power output of 441 kW. It features a battery capacity of 100 kWh, with an estimated driving range of 740 km (CLTC), and supports 400 kW fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in just 15 minutes. Regarding the release date and pricing for the #5, it is expected to launch in Hong Kong in the first half of 2025, with prices ranging from HK$300,000 to HK$400,000.

This year, the Chinese automaker MG launched the convertible electric sports car Cyberster, clearly showcasing its unique approach to vehicle design. In addition to the Cyberster, the brand also unveiled a hardtop version called the Cyber GTS at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK this July. The front of the new car resembles the Cyberster, but the focus is on the rear, which features a streamlined ducktail design that pays homage to the classic MGB/MGC from the 1960s, making it both fresh and appealing.

The new model features a 2+2 seating configuration and has a battery capacity of 77 kWh, offering both a single-motor rear-wheel drive and a dual-motor all-wheel drive version. The manufacturer has yet to reveal detailed power specifications, but external estimates suggest maximum power outputs of around 246 kW and 394 kW. Although the Cyber GTS is still classified as a concept car, the exhibited version is highly refined. Reports indicate that mass production will begin in 2025, generating excitement among sports car enthusiasts.

Since the Polestar 2, models like the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 have each developed their own unique identities. In 2025, it will be Polestar 5’s turn to be in the spotlight. As a large luxury GT sedan, the Polestar 5 is expected to be longer than the Polestar 4, offering a more spacious interior. Built on the bonded aluminum Polestar Performance Architecture (PPA) platform, the manufacturer has not yet disclosed the battery capacity. However, it has previously announced that with the new StoreDot Extreme Fast Charging (XFC) technology, the battery can charge from 10% to 80% in just 10 minutes.

In terms of performance, the Polestar 5 boasts 650 kW of power and 900 Nm of torque, with an estimated 0-100 km/h acceleration time of under 3 seconds, indicating that its competitors will include high-performance electric sedans like the Porsche Taycan. The manufacturer has uploaded some information about the Polestar 5 on its official website, and it is expected to be officially unveiled in 2025.

This year, Zeekr officially launched in Hong Kong, introducing the SUV Zeekr X and the luxury seven-seater Zeekr 009. In September, the company also unveiled the new 7X model in mainland China. Positioned as a large five-seat SUV, the 7X measures over 4.8 meters in length and features the Zeekr Stargate integrated smart headlights, which contain 1,831 LEDs and offer a lighting range of up to 310 degrees.

The interior design emphasizes minimalism, highlighted by a 16-inch touchscreen on the center console. The vehicle is equipped with a 21-speaker sound system and provides 32 storage compartments. The front seats offer ventilation, heating, and massage functions, while the rear seats can be adjusted forward and backward by up to 215 mm, with a backrest that tilts up to 134 degrees. Additionally, there is a 6-inch screen behind the front seats for passengers to enjoy multimedia entertainment.

The Zeekr 7X utilizes a second-generation 'golden brick' battery with a capacity of 75 kWh and an 800V voltage architecture, allowing it to charge from 10% to 80% in just 10.5 minutes. A 5-minute charge can add 241 km to its remaining range. In terms of power, it delivers 475 kW, with a range of 780 km under the CLTC standard.

Japanese EV options have traditionally been limited, and the latest addition is the Suzuki eVX, a compact SUV measuring 4,275 x 1,800 x 1,635 mm. This model may evoke memories of the Vitara for many in Hong Kong, and the manufacturer has indicated that it will be named e VITARA in the European market. The eVX features a design with many strong lines and plenty of plastic components at the bottom, successfully creating an urban off-road aesthetic that is quite appealing.

The eVX is set to enter mass production in 2025 at the Indian factory. Based on the specifications released so far, it will offer two battery options: 49 kWh and 61 kWh. The 61 kWh version will be available in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations (the 49 kWh version will only offer a front-wheel-drive version). The 49 kWh version has a power output of 106 kW and torque of 189 Nm, while the 61 kWh front-wheel drive version delivers 128 kW of power and 189 Nm of torque. The 61 kWh all-wheel drive version boasts 135 kW of power and 300 Nm of torque. In terms of range, the eVX is expected to achieve 550 km under the Indian MIDC standard.
